General Information

Start Times

 

8:45am for all participants. Runners will be lined up first, polers then walkers. The start line is on Bay Street, by the furthest end of the parking lot at the Charles W. Stockey Centre (Same as last year) Please Note: Check in time starts at 7:30am at the Charles W. Stockey Centre.

 

Parking

 

All participants are advised to plan ahead and get to the event at least 45 minutes before start time. If you are coming by car, please consider road congestion and closures. We have permission for participants to park in the Island Queen parking lot. We encourage you to store your clothing as early as possible and retrieve it soon after completing the race. The organizers will not be responsible for lost items and you are advised to keep any money or important items with you at all times. All checked bags must be collected by 12 noon on race day.

 

How to raise your pledge commitment in a week.

 

Day 1 Sponsor yourself $10: $10

Day 2 – Ask two family members to sponsor you $5: $20

Day 3 – Ask five friends to contribute $5: $45

Day 4 – Ask five co-workers / neighbours to contribute $5: $70

Day 5 – Ask five people from your social or sports group to contribute $2: $80

Day 6 – Ask local merchants to sponsor you $2: $90

Day 7 – Ask your boss for a company contribution of $10: $100

 

General Tips

 

  • You should exercise at least three times a week for at least 20 minutes.
  • Get a check-up from your doctor to gauge your health.
  • Write down what exercise you do. This will keep you motivated.
  • Plan to do the exercise in the morning because it allows you to fit it in more easily and also starts your metabolism for the day.
  • Train with a friend or pet. They will help to ensure you do it.
  • No Pet or Friend? Get a pedometer and count your steps.
  • Take a drink and/or energy bar with you to keep yourself hydrated and boost energy.
  • Follow the Map and train on the course route so you can moniter your progress.

Registration

Please note: the deadline is at noon on May 26th, 2017.  T-shirt deadline is May 10. Registrants after that date will receive a T-shirt from our guesstimate order. We will do our best to match your request. Next Step: Log-in to your online e-pledging account at using the email/username and password submitted in the Run Registration Form.

 

Option A: Register for $25 and obtain pledges amounting to:

 

  • $100 – Adult
  • $75 – 14-18
  • $50 – under 14
  • Family pledging Rate: Only applies to family of 4+.  Each family member will obtain pledges amounting to half the minimum pledge amount for that age group.

 

Option B: Register for FREE!

 

Pay $25 and collect $200 in pledges.  Once you have collected $200 in pledges, bring them to WPSHC Foundation office with a note or email requesting your $25 registration fee be returned and we will refund your $25, making your registration FREE.

 

Team Registration Options:

 

Option A:

 

Select a Team Captain to register the team.  The Team Captain will register through Registration and members can join the team after.  Each team member will be given a pledge account with the email and password entered in the registration. The individual pledge accounts will link to the team page.

 

Option B:

 

Register and join one of the teams listed, and begin collecting pledges.

 

Option C:

 

If you already have a pledge account, you can create or join a team.  You can create a team or join a team that is listed. If you choose this option, please be sure that you are registered for the Race.

10k Race Details

10K COURSE

 

For active, semi-active or casual runners, joggers, polers and walkers.  This is our competitive route. Marked by Flag KM Markers. If you are unable to jog 10K in under 1 hour 15 minutes, we strongly advise you to join the fun and take on the 5K challenge. This will prevent any disappointment at failing to meet the cut-off time of 10:30. Click here to see the map route.

 

Course Description

 

Start line is at the start of Bay Street by the Charles W. Stockey Centre. Route goes straight out Bay Street. Right on to Seguin Street and across the car bridge. Right on to Great North Road and slight turn onto the trail towards Harbour. Turn right at Champagne Street and make a large loop in the dock parking lot, accessing the trail by end of the lot and returning on the same trail towards downtown. Turn left onto the fitness trail, crossing the walking bridge that parallels the car bridge. At the end of the walking bridge turn left to follow the fitness trail by the falls. Cross Bay Street to access the Fitness Trail en route to Salt Dock Road. Straight out to Salt Dock Road, run the inside perimeter of cones at the salt dock to loop back on the road in front of the Water Filtration Plant. Up onto Waubeek Street and along to Waubano. Turn Right on to Waubano (old Town Beach), and under the Fitness Trail Bridge turn right to access the Fitness Trail. Turn left on the Fitness Trail en route back to Salt Dock Road, run the inside perimeter of the cones and loop again onto the road in front of the Water Filtration Plant up to Waubeek Street. Turn Right on to Waubano, make another right under the Fitness Trail Bridge to access the Fitness Trail, turn right towards Bay Street. Go towards Bay Street and to the finish-line at the end of the Fitness Trail.

 

Each kilometre will be marked along the course with a Breezer FlagWater stations will be available at approx. every 2K.

5k & 2k Race Details

5K & 2K Course

 

Enjoy the breathtaking views and nature’s splendors along the Rotary fitness trail. This route is for all 5K runners, walkers and polers. Course marked by Red KM Flag Markers.

Course Description

 

Head up Bay Street to the Seguin Intersection. Turn right on to Seguin Street and across the car bridge. Turn right on to Great North Road and continue to the Fitness Trail. Turn right onto the fitness trail, crossing the walking bridge that parallels the car bridge. At the end of the walking bridge turn left to follow the fitness trail by the falls. Cross Bay Street to access the Fitness Trail en route to Waubeek Street. At Waubeek street turn right and continue along to Waubano. Turn right onto Waubano then make another right under the Fitness Trail Bridge to access the Fitness Trail, turn right towards Bay Street. Go towards Bay Street and to the finish-line at the end of the Fitness Trail.   

 

Kilometre Markers

 

Each kilometre will be marked along the course with a Breezer FlagWater stations will be available at approx. every 2K.

Awards

Fastest 10K male & female runners will each receive $250 cash in the Kawartha Purse.

 

2nd place finish 10K male & female runners will receive a gift certificate to White Squall!

 

Fastest 5K male & female runners will each receive $100 cash.

 

2nd place finish 5K male & female will receive a gift certificate to White Squall!

 

Fastest 2 K male and female runners will each receive the Gold Medal.

 

Medals awarded to 10K, 5K, 2K male & female runners finishing 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each distance.

Free Registration

Raise $200.00 or more through pledges online and you can request FREE registration.

 

How do I qualify to run the race for FREE?

 

Register for $25 (don’t forget to tick the waiver if you register online). Then log-in to our NEW e-Pledge option. Once registered, an e-pledging account will automatically be created for you, with your own personal pledge profile. Log-in to your account using the email and password submitted in the Online Run Registration Form. Now collect a minimum of $200. Any runner, walker or roller who raises $200.00 or more through their personal online fundraising page will be eligible to participate in the Biosphere Run Do It For Life – Walk, Run or Roll FREE.

 

What if I don’t want to fundraise? Can I make a personal donation of $200 or more and run for FREE?

 

Yes. For those who do not want to collect pledges but still want to support West Parry Sound Health Centre, please click here to make a $200 donation in support of West Parry Sound Health Centre or give us a call at (705) 746-4540 x 3348. Please note: as per Canada RevenueAgency, a split receipt will be issued for $175 as you will be receiving a $25 benefit. For up-to-date information from CRA guidelines please click here.

 

Are there restrictions as to who can donate or sponsor my page?

 

Anyone can donate to your page BUT in order to qualify for the free race registration, you must reach the minimum target of $200 in pledges.

 

Can I transfer my registration to another person to use?

 

No, race registrations are non-transferable.

 

What is the deadline to be eligible to run for free?

 

The $200 mark must be met by May 26 in order to qualify for your free registration.

 

Once I have reached the $200 mark, how do I receive my registration refund of $25?

 

Please email cknox@wpshc.com with the email subject line “Free Race Registration” and let us know that you have reached the $200 e-pledge mark or bring your funds to the office. If emailing in, please include your full name, phone number and mailing address and we will coordinate details for the $25 registration refund to you should you choose to receive it. Please allow 2 business days and within that time you will receive an email from Cathy Knox to coordinate details of the $25 registration refund.

 

What happens if I raise more than $200?

 

GREAT! We encourage everyone to fundraise as much as they are able. Pledges buy new equipment for the Health Centre.

 

What happens if I have cheques or cash donations to put towards my fundraising total?

 

Please drop off or send your offline donations to the WPSHC Foundation office (6 Albert St., Parry Sound, ON, P2A 3A4) in an envelope clearly marked Georgian Bay Wlk, Run, Pole – Do It For Life Pledges. Please ensure you provide 4 things in the envelope:

 

  • Your full name
  • the total enclosed
  • the cheques/cash
  • a letter confirming your $200 pledge commitment and requesting the $25 FREE registration. Please note: that all offline donations must be received by 9 am on May 26 in order to count towards your FREE race registration.
